Tragedy, costumes and clutches.

Men name their cars.  So I don't think it is at all strange that I have named my sewing machine.  Her name is Sewphie and she's a Kenmore zigzag model from 1975.  True... the name isn't very creative (although more creative than my late goldfish Mr.Fishy).  I'll save my creativity for my crafting :)

Anyway, last Sunday night, tragedy struck.      

**pause for dramatic effect**

Sewphie wouldn't work any more.  

Try as I might I couldn't figure out how to get it to work.  I oiled it and went to bed.  When I got up on Monday morning, the oil had not fixed it, so I took the top off to see what was going on and discovered that the only plastic piece in the entire machine had split in half.

I got my dad to see if he could take the piece out, which he was able to do.  We went to several stores to try to find the piece.  The guy working at one of the stores wished me good luck, since I probably wouldn't find the piece.  

Sewphie's long life looked to be ending.

and then........ my dad was able to find the piece online!! It's from a place in Texas and it should be here by next Monday.  FINGERS CROSSED THAT SEWPHIE SURVIVES.

Fortunately my mom has a machine that she doesn't really use, so I've pulled that out.  Yes, I probably could survive 14 days without a sewing machine, but this is different circumstances.  I've been quite busy making a bunch of costumes for a play.  I had finished all the costumes mainly before Sewphie broke, but now I have to make some adjustments now that I've been able to see the costumes on the actors.  (more pictures to be posted at a later date).
